Healing Through Connection. Growth Through Horses.
Empowering children in Northwest Louisiana to overcome trauma and build resilience through mentorship and equine-assisted learning.
Connection that nurtures, horses that guide growth.
Every Child Deserves a Path Forward.
Early childhood trauma, neglect, and abuse can leave lasting scars on a child’s sense of trust. Traditional talk therapy isn’t always the answer for “kids from hard places.”
At Making A New Way, we bridge the gap. By combining the healing power of horses with consistent, trauma-informed mentorship, we help children develop the life skills they need to transition into healthy adults.
Meet the Founder
Led by Clinical Expertise. Rooted in Compassion.
For over 25 years, Yevette Harrell has dedicated her life to healing. Her journey began in the high-pressure environments of Emergency and Intensive Care Units, but her heart led her to the frontline of foster care advocacy.
After serving as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for five years, Yevette saw firsthand the gaps in support for children coming from difficult backgrounds. She realized that for a child to heal from trauma, they needed more than just a service—they needed a safe, consistent relationship and a way to regulate their nervous system.
In 2018, Yevette founded Making A New Way to combine her medical expertise with the therapeutic power of horses. As a TBRI® Practitioner and Equine Specialist, she has created a sanctuary at Holly Hill Farm where children can finally feel safe enough to grow.
Credentials:
- Medical: Registered Nurse (25+ years, MSN)
- Specialized: TBRI® Practitioner (Trust-Based Relational Intervention)
- Equine: ESMHL (Equine Specialist in Mental Health Learning)

How the Program Works
Our Mindful Approach to Resilience
1-on-1 Mentorship
Every child is paired with a dedicated mentor who commits to showing up weekly. This consistency builds the “felt safety” necessary for healing.
Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL)
Horses are uniquely attuned to human emotion. Through grooming and groundwork, children learn to regulate their emotions and build healthy boundaries.
Life Skill Development
We focus on the “whole child,” using a relationship-based curriculum to grow self-worth, communication, and resilience.
