Building Resilience in Children
Making A New Way is an Equine Assisted Learning program that partners with horses to provide social - emotional learning for individuals who have experienced emotional and/or physical trauma.
Program
Poor communication and low self-esteem are common issues in our youth today. However, children who have experienced early childhood neglect and/or abuse are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of these due to inherent trust and self worth issues. MAWAY bridges this gap with community mentors that are trauma informed and committed to weekly sessions with the children. They partner with the horse in activities, farm chores and creative play to develop healthy relationships with each child. Using the Stable Moments Model for mentorship and small groups, we build on those relationships with equine assisted learning to grow life skills that the children desperately need to transition into a healthy adult. Each child has an individualized plan of care that encompasses his or her strengths and challenges. Communication between the parents, mentor, and program director is ongoing to promote long and short-term goals of the child.

MENTOR A CHILD Please contact us if you would be interested in mentoring a child. We have flexible online training along with horsemanship training on the farm. Background checks are mandatory in addition to committing to weekly sessions throughout the school year.

SPONSOR Monthly sponsorship provides for child participation, planning and education, farm improvements, animal care and community service.
VOLUNTEER Volunteers can help in a variety of ways, caring for animals and the farm, providing educational opportunities for mentors and children, and giving time to provide support to the program.
Who We Are
Making a New Way provides Equine Assisted Services at Holly Hill Farm in Benton LA. The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities for children experiencing early childhood trauma, to achieve life skills using equine assisted learning, along side community mentors. Making a New Way partners with horses and other farm animals in addition to farm type chores, and some creative play to help children make progress towards healthy self esteem, increased confidence, and healthy relationship building.
